Porto-Novo
Rasta Mix
This is the official capital of Benin, although the seat of government is in Cotonou. The city of Porto-Novo is attributed to two major peoples: the Yorubas, who came from Nigeria and founded the Kingdom of Adjachè, and the Alladanu, who came from Allada and established the Kingdom of Hogbonou. Hogbonou was renamed Porto-Novo (meaning "New Port") in 1752 by the Portuguese navigator Eucharistus de Campos, due to its resemblance to the Portuguese city of Porto.
